New Principal at Stuart Draft Elementary

STUARTS DRAFT — Stump Elementary School in Stuarts Draft will have a new principal this fall. Taking over at Stump is Shawn Baska, currently the assistant principal at Wilson Elementary School. Baska’s career has included being a physical education teacher and administrator with Augusta County since 2003.

Baska is taking over for longtime educator David Shriver, who is retiring.

This year was Shriver’s fourth as principal at Stump. He was the principal at Wilson Elementary School for 11 years, which prior to the expansion and renovation was much like Stump in terms of size and building structure. This is his 42nd year in teaching. He was one of four teachers hired as the county’s first special education teachers.

Another change for Augusta County schools this coming year, Terry Lafon, curriculum supervisor, will be taking over as director of transportation.

More changes to Augusta County’s administration are likely in the coming days, said Jill Martin, director of personnel.

Waynesboro schools have no principal or administrative changes at this time, according to Superintendent Jeffrey Cassell.
