Over 800 young children were read to for READ FOR THE RECORD!

Smart Beginnings Shenandoah Valley participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record®.  Jumpstart is a national early education organization that is leveling the playing field so that all children are ready for kindergarten. We recruit volunteers and partner with preschools in under-resourced communities to help children develop the language and literacy skills they need to set them on a path for academic and lifelong success.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record® is a national campaign that was launched over a decade ago to address the educational inequities that leave too many children unprepared for kindergarten. On Thursday, October 27, 2016, children and adults gathered together to learn, laugh, and read this year’s campaign book, The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach, as part of the world’s largest shared reading experience. The Bear Ate Your Sandwich, a classic tale of a bear’s epic journey and the mystery surrounding one delicious sandwich!
Smart Beginnings Shenandoah Valley would like to thank the local legislators, school board members, school administrators, law enforcement offices, and community leaders who joined us to invest in young children throughout the Valley!! 830 children heard the story last Thursday, and feedback was great!!! Take a look at some highlights below.
