Understanding the importance of learning and development that children experience before they reach school, Smart Beginnings staff and community partners in the counties of Augusta, Page, Rockingham and Shenandoah as well as the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro have joined together to build a system where every child has the same opportunities for success in school and life.

Using the information found in a research document from the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation, Virginia’s Preschool Puzzle, Smart Beginnings Shenandoah Valley developed a system approach that allows parents, early childhood educators, community and business leaders, health care professionals, public and private school systems, local non-profits,and public agencies to work together in order to help children and families in the central Shenandoah Valley be prepared to enter kindergarten to succeed.
