Building a System that supports every young child’s future

Smart Beginnings Shenandoah Valley is part of the state wide initiative of the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation (VECF), a public-private foundation dedicated to improving school readiness for all young children, ages birth-5 years.   Smart Beginnings Shenandoah Valley (SBSV) partners with decision makers, parents, early childhood educators, and business leaders, public and private health care providers, school systems, nonprofits and public agencies with the goal to strengthen a regional system that supports every child’s growth and development.

Smart Beginnings Shenandoah Valley includes the counties of Augusta, Page, Rockingham, and Shenandoah and the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton, and Waynesboro.

A diverse community where every family is supported and has access to quality programs and resources for their child.

Our Goal

To create “ready children” or children who have had a variety of quality learning experiences, are comfortable with their peers, who can effectively communicate with adults, and have basic life needs met prior to entering the school system.
